A nice Fall Day!

Well our belated wedding reception went really well! It was great to see everyone (some of whom I was meeting for the first time from Dan's side of the family!). We weren't too sure about the weather, as they were predicting thunderstorms, but they held off, it was just humid, but we were all having too much fun to notice :-) Work is still going well, never a dull moment, and my day's are busy, which is good, it makes the time go by very quickly! My co-workers are awesome, couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to work with (other than my inpatient friends who are awesome too!!!). Dan's hours got cut a few weeks ago, we are hoping that its just a temporary thing, as they do have more work coming in from the City of Detroit. Definitely looking forward to Fall, no more humidity and high temps! Can't wait for the smell of burning leaves and apple cider from the Dexter Cider Mill!

On a side note, i'm sure most of you have read that I have a mass on my left side of my chest. I had a ultrasound done last week to confirm that there is something there, and got the results this past week. I am switching Dr's so that everything is under the U of M umbrella and I won't have to wait a week to get results for further testing. I have an appt on Wed with a new PCP that will take over from this point on, deciding what testing will be the best option to decide what exactly this mass is. Everyone's support has been amazing, Just keep saying prayers and hopefully this will be an easy fix.

Looking forward to this long holiday weekend, my first paid holiday in over 2 years! Going to enjoy a bbq with friends tonight, then relax the rest of the weekend :-) Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

A crazy last few months!

Hello there everyone! This blog is one of the hardest things to keep up on! Things have been going great since I last blogged in June though!

As you all know, I had been trying to get into the University of Michigan hospital permanently since I started working there with Manpower. Well, I finally got hired in permanently! I had been applying for anything and everything, just trying to get an interview.. The only kind of response I was getting was the e-mails that tell me that the department had completed its interviews and the position was closed :-( Well, after someone had hacked into my hotmail account, I have very rarely been using it, but hadn't closed it out yet! One random monday afternoon, I decided to check my old e-mail before heading in for my evening shift at the U. Only to discover that there was an e-mail sitting in there with a u of m email address, with the subject line interview! FINALLY! I open it with excitement to see that someone in the Cancer Center wanted to interview me! I was so excited! So I e-mailed the lady back and we set up an interview for that coming thursday! The interview went great, I got to meet with one of my current bosses as well as the lady who is in charge of hiring for the CC! I got a tour of the floor that I would be working on. They liked all of my questions I asked, and the interview went well as a whole! I found out I was 1 of 5 candidates they would be interviewing, #4 infact. They wanted to have a decision by the middle-end of the following week. So I sent my Thank you notes, and waited. While waiting I had gotten another interview at East Ann Arbor Radiology! I was 1 of 15 there for just the first round! After that interview, I went right into work, and opened my e-mail, and there was an e-mail from the lady in the CC saying they were interested in hiring me!!!

Being hired into the U is a process, they need to do a background, references, all that, then HR decides how much to offer, they tell your supervisor, then it gets offered to you. That process took about a week, so not to bad. I got my start date of July 12. I notified Manpower, as well as Central Staffing that I would be leaving for a permanent position. I think CSR was a little less than thrilled, and asked why I hadn't waited for them to make me an offer... Because I need full-time permanent now, and its being offered, i'm not going to wait for a maybe down the road...

So in the CC I work on Floor B1, Reception B, which deals primarily with bone marrow transplants, pediatric and adult cancers, as well as other blood disorders. I work M-F 8:30-5pm, no weekends, no holidays. I work in the checkout portion of the area. Basically the patients have already had their appointments and need to schedule follow-ups, blood work, chemo appointments, and possibly any sort of radiology testing (MRI, CT, etc), or a consultation to another area. This is what I do, I make all of their appts, collect any co-pays, and provide them with a list of their appointments. It really is quite different than inpatient, but I must say, its really nice to put faces with the names on the paperwork, when your inpatient (when a patient is in the hospital) you very rarely meet the patient behind the paperwork. I love the interaction, sometimes its just a smile that makes someone feel better that day :-) I still miss my inpatient friends from the 7th floor in the main hospital though, so I still keep in touch :)

There is a lot to learn with this new position, a lot of training classes, but so far I'm doing great, and half of my classes are over already :-)

So besides the new job, I've also been very busy planning our belated wedding reception! Which is actually tomorrow, so a lot to do in the next 24 hours! We are having it at Kensington Metropark, and are expecting between 90-100 people! I am really looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting some of Dan's extended family :-)

On a side note, I need another root canal :-( Thankfully with our awesome insurance from U of M, its covered 100%! The only problem I had was finding a dentist that did them. I made an appt with Great Expressions Dental in Livonia, and went in, they confirmed what I already knew lol. But then told me they couldn't get me in for an appt to do it until August 17th? wtf? That was 2.5 weeks away! So my dad suggested I go to his dentist, so I did. I went Thursday and they said they could get me in monday for the root canal! So on monday i'll no longer be in pain when not taking Motrin 800's lol. Thats another thing, the other place didn't even offer to provide a prescription for pain meds, even though I would be waiting for 2+ weeks! Don't ever go there!

Well, thats about it for now, I'm going to go enjoy this cool morning out on the porch and wait for Dan to wake up :-)

Greetings from the Doddie's :-)

Its been a while, just wanted to say hello to everyone! Its been an exhausting few months! I'm still very busy working at UofM hospital :-) My assignment in the CICU (cardiac ICU) is coming to a close soon, and I will be orienting on more units :-) I'm hoping to be hired in the next few months, so keep your finger crossed! Dan's work is still going well, although they are waiting for several new projects to come in to continue to stay busy.

Our house has given us a run for our money lately! In the span of two weeks, our tub drain and sink drain, both needed to be snake by a professional (after Dan tried first), and our central a/c went out! Thankfully they were both easy fixes, and we are back in business! We just needed a new fan motor for the unit outside, which my best friends husband was able to order for us at contractor rates :-)

The invites for our belated wedding reception are almost complete, just waiting for some pictures to come in the mail to include in them, since we had a small private ceremony.

Life Update!

Ok, so I just realized its been 3 months since I last blogged, so its long overdue! So much has happened over the last 3 months its crazy!! Back in December I had applied for work through Manpower, just to see what was out there. Well, I didn't give it much thought, as I was still getting plenty of hours at Marshalls. Well, one day in the middle of February, I got an e-mail from a recruiter there and asked me to call, so I did, and she told me that they had multiple openings at U of M hospital for a unit clerk. It would involve 5 weeks of training, and would I be interested. So of course I said yes! I informed Marshalls because Manpower wanted me to start the following monday! So the 5 weeks of training was a success, I got to meet a lot of nice people while training on the Cardiac floor. I passed my solo assessment and written 200 question exam, and am now able to work on 3 of the four units on the Cardiac floor of the main hospital! I will be getting additional training on other units/floors as well! Right now I will be mainly in the ICU on the cardiac floor until at least mid june covering someone's maternity leave! Working here is like a high school reunion, I have ran into so many people from high school, and have also made a lot of new friends :-)

In other exciting news, we have set a date for our belated wedding reception! August 8th at Kensington Metro Park! I'm very excited to FINALLY meet some of Dan's mom's side of the family (they don't get together hardly ever!). I'm looking forward to it :-)

Well, thats about it for now!

Its been a good few weeks!

Well, I got offered a job at Marshalls! I started last tuesday at their Southfield store. Not the position I wanted, but a step in the right direction! From what i've been told, they will be making employee changes in the next few months, and i'm learning a lot of tasks that will enable me to hopefully take over a full-time position at the right time! I was working in the Canton store this week learning how to run the cash office, reconcile the safe and tills, etc. It was a lot of fun to learn how to do that, and I think I have it down pat! I will be doing it all by myself on monday to see how I do! I have been working a ton of hours, and wednesday this week will probably have been my only day off lol. Looking forward to seeing everyone for Christmas! I hope Santa thinks I've been good this year :-) Merry Christmas everyone!!

Happy Holidays!

Well, still job searching, had 3 interviews this week, 2 with staffing agencies and one with the store Marshall's for an administrative coordinator position, still waiting to hear, hopefully this coming week i'll hear either way on the last one. Busy getting ready for Christmas, all the decorations are up except for the lights outside (due to all the interviews I had this week, they had to take the back burner). Almost all of the presents are wrapped and under our little tree (I opted for a small table top this year as opposed to a huge one I would need to make room for!).

In other news, my cyst was successfully shrunk, and will not need surgery unless it flares back up! Looking forward to 2010, hopefully it will bring better things for me in terms of a good job, and for Dan & I!

Hello, I know its been an even longer time!

So I have been horrible at this blogging thing since I got back to Michigan.. I really have no excuse since I'm not working yet, but I do find things to do to keep me very busy! Still no job, but actively interviewing/sending out resumes/making contacts. Talking with a recruiter from Atwell-Hicks currently about a GIS Technician position, we will see where that leads, but i'm hoping that it will be promising since he contacted me within 20 minutes of applying for the job! I sent him a summary of my qualifications relating to that program, since I have no direct work related experience, but tons of college experience. Keep your fingers crossed! I also interviewed with a company called Rainbow Rehabilitation, seems promising, they are looking to hire a lot of people, so hopefully I will get a call from them. They deal with people who have brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.

In other news, After a routine exam, I was found to have a 5mm cyst inside of my left ovary. The doctor is trying to shrink it currently with medication, I go back the day before Thanksgiving to see if it has worked or not. This upcoming week will be very busy for us, two Thanksgiving Day dinners, friday shopping for me, saturday we are meeting up with my aunt & uncle at the Toledo Zoo for their Christmas display, so that should be fun, and sunday will be a rest day!

Hope everyone is doing well, and I promise to write a little more often!
